Fig.1. Color Sensor Illustration and image diagram
A color sensor is a non-contact device that determines the color of an object using RGB LEDs and a photodiode. Color sensors are available in two types: reflective and transmissive.
In the reflective type, LED lights in R, G, and B colors are irradiated onto the object one by one, and each reflected light is received by a photodiode. At this time, the output ratio can be obtained according to the color of the object. This enables the determination of the color and density of the object.
Based on the same principle, the transmissive type discriminates colors based on the output ratio of transmitted light. The transmissive type is especially useful for detecting the color of liquids, making it possible to assess the condition of substances such as bodily fluids or lubricating oils based on color identification.

Applications
・Color discrimination in line inspection
・Paint color discrimination
・Check the appearance of the printed matter
Features
・Interface : UART
・Calibrated using white reference paper
・Automatic correction of LED degradation over time using a built-in reference photodiode in the LED package.
3.Liquid Color Discrimination Sensor (MSG2A48)
Fig. 3: Liquid Color Discrimination Sensor (MSG2A48)
Product outline
It's a transmissive sensor that consists of a three-color LED and one photodetector.
The color and density are determined from the light that has passed through the liquid.
Applications
・Water quality discrimination
・Simple color discrimination of blood and body fluids
・Color discrimination in line inspection
Features
・Interface : UART
・Reads the transmitted light of a three-color LED individually
・The amount of light of each LED can be changed by adjusting the IF
・Specifications can be customized according to the application, such as the wavelength of the light source and the shape of the sensor
How to use
The light transmitted through the liquid is read by the phototransistor for each output of the three-color LED and
output as a ratio to the reference value set at the time of calibration.
